Bow Glacier Falls and Unnamed Ridge

Banff National Park is home to the largest icefields and glaciers in the Rocky Mountain range. Bow Lake, Bow Glacier, and Bow Falls are all found on an offshoot of what is deemed the “Icefield Parkway”, a main passageway between Banff and Jasper National Parks. When viewing icefields and waterfalls of this nature, one is taken back in time and is often overwhelmed by the sheer size and magnitude of these landforms. This trail explores the seamless transition from wet valley forest to primary successional rock formations under the shadows of perpetual ice and water flow- giving a feeling only shared by entering Narnia. Of all my exploration throughout North America, the 10 miles I hiked in this area remain the most incomprehensible in terms of beauty and scale. The two photos I captured here reveal only the smallest portion of the soul-stirring alpine ecosystem- shrouded by low clouds the whole afternoon, the peaks and ice held a mystery.
