Sonoran Desert and Boulders

This series of photos shows the varied dry landscape of higher-elevation Sonoran Desert territory in winter. On a family camping trip outside of Florence AZ, the winding sandy roads offered great opportunity to capture random and unique aspects of this area. The rounded, coarsely textured granite boulders for instance- stand out drastically from the otherwise rolling hills and canyons of this area. The short but remote highway leading through this area descends from a small plateau down towards the Gila River and the tiny town of Kelvin, with mighty Pinal Peak sharing the horizon.
